Today we had quite an adventure. We decided that we wanted to see the westernmost crater, were there are two lakes at the bottom. One with blue water and one with green water. But we didn't want to go to the standard "Mirador" and take pictures from the same spot as every postcard is taken. So, with a little help from a guide book, we managed to find our way to the opposite rim of the crater.

We went as far as our rented Nissan Micro would take us, we had to leave her when the road got to bad. Then we hiked out with Z in his pram. It turned out that the ascent was steep as crazy. It took us some time, but we actually did it to the top where the view was magnificent. But it was also very windy***, and Z, who loves when it blows in his face, got a little wind overdose.

Just when we thought the whole excursion was a very bad idea, a local arrived in his four wheel drive vehicle and offered us a lift down again. He didn't speak any english, and we don't speak portugese, but he keept repeating the word "Frijo", by what I assume he tried to tell us that we were crazy bringing a baby up to the top of the volcanoe in that weather. I guess he was right. But we had fun.

And a note for my "To Buy-list": I need a wide angle lens. It's rather frustrating trying to capture the great views and panoramas with my zoom lens.
